What is self-care?  Self-Care is the act of taking care of our mental, emotional, and physical health.

The last 12 months have been a struggle and had an impact on my mental health.  Through my wellness journey and recovery I have been re-establishing self-care in my life.

There are simple things that we can do to add wellness and and clean living into our existing lifestyle while being frugal and fly.

Today let’s talk about the act of being pampered and doing so on a budget.

Have you heard of Groupon or Travelzoo deals?  If you haven’t your missing out. These two platforms offer discounts through various providers as low as 25% off and sometimes as high as 55%.

Here are my 3 tips on how to use these two platforms to find self-care deals on a budget.

  1. Sign-up for Groupon and Travel zoo email list.

Signing-up keeps you up to date on deals in your community but gives you notification also additional promo offers to allow you to save even more schmoney aka $$$.

2. Check Reviews

Check the spa reviews on Google, Yelp etc. because not all discounted services are gems. No company is perfect however check the reviews and read the comments, ? look at customer and website photos. We’ve all done a little cyber stalking before ??. This is the only time it will be okay, consider it consumer research.

If the rating is 8 or higher (out of 10) and you like what you see.  Book it baby.

3. Check your insurance

Did you know that if you have employment insurance they may cover a part of your self-care treatment? Keep in mind that insurance coverage varies by employer and insurance provider. If you are getting a massage, ask if the person is a licenced RMT and if they will issue a receipt

This is super important because your insurance company will not reimburse you without it.

Example:

In June 2019 I attended St. Regis Spa for a 60-minute RMT Swedish Massage plus choice of hot stone muscle melt or hot oil scalp enhancement and have access to their hot tub, dry sauna and heated saltwater infinity pool with two of my colleagues. $150 (reg. $200.00)

St. Regis Spa offered RMT receipt as of $150 upon request.  With the assistance of my insurance I was reimbursed $150 allowing me to get of $200.00 treatment for under $50.00 which is the cost of tip 18% tip and 13 % taxes.

Psst. I ❤ my experience at St. Regis Spa but the pool area smelled like chlorine. So I don’t know about the salt water pool experience. You didn’t hear that from me.?

Photos are of my St. Regis Spa experience attached.

Bonus Tip: When booking services from Travel Zoo or Groupon. The posted rate does not include tip. The tip will be charged at the full price percentage. Charged at the $200 rate not the $150. Tip not included.

St. Regis deal still valid until August 30, 2019 for those who are interested in trying them out.
